Daily itinerary

Day 1 – Friday – Mid-day departure on a flight from LA to Montreal. Evening arrival and transfer to St. Jean XXIII Pavilion Inn at the doorstep of St. Joseph’s Oratory, our home in Montreal, for three nights.

Day 2 – Excursion to Kahnawake and Old Town Montreal. Driving parallel to the south shore of the St. Lawrence, stop at St. Francis Mission in the Mohawk Indian Reservation of Kahnawake, across the river from Montreal. Here rest the mortal remains of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, “Lily of the Mohawks.” Although born in upstate NY (c. 1656), she traveled north to serve this mission after her conversion. Continue to Old Town Montreal. With mid-17th-century origins, this vibrant city rose upon the triple-peaked hill of Mount Royal on the island of Montreal. Stroll along the boardwalk to Notre Dame de Montreal (c.1820), an exquisite Gothic-Renaissance basilica. Visit Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours, one of the city’s oldest churches (c. 1655), charmingly known as the “Sailors Chapel.” Close to the port, it became a tradition for the sailors to pray here before a voyage. Ex-votos in the form of model ships still hang from the ceiling. St. Marguerite Bourgeoys, 17th Cent. foundress of the Congregation of Notre Dame, rallied the colonists to build this church. See her tomb and visit a museum dedicated to her life and the early history of Montreal. Also, see a small 16th-century wooden statue of Mary that she brought from France.

Day 3 – Join devotees of Brother Andre Bessette, the 19th-century doorkeeper famous for his friendship with St. Joseph, on a significant local pilgrimage to his birthplace in Mont-Saint-Grégoire! Visit the sites of Br. Andre and have the opportunity to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

Day 4 – Morning at the Oratory of St. Joseph, the world’s largest church dedicated to the guardian of the Holy Family. Situated on the slopes of Mt. Royal, this marvelous Shrine is the work of the recently canonized Brother Andre Bessette, whose love of St. Joseph inspired all he did. Beginning with a chapel built by hand in 1904 in honor of his patron saint, the Oratory grew into the Shrine it is today, with over 2 million visitors annually. Visit the original chapel and the basilica with a Renaissance Revival facade. See the votive chapel, Brother Andre’s tomb, and the Stations of the Cross gardens’. Afternoon departure northeast along the St. Lawrence to Canada’s Marian Shrine of Notre-Dame-du-Cap (“Our Lady of the Cape”) in Trois-Rivieres, where thousands of pilgrims visit annually to pray in the oldest standing Canadian chapel (c.1635). Late afternoon arrival and overnight at Travelodge in Trois Rivieres. Evening Rosary at the Shrine.

Day 5 – Morning check-out and return to the Shrine to visit the new basilica and learn of the miracle of the Ice Bridge witnessed by Bl. Fr. Frederic Jansoone in 1888. Afternoon departure north to the Rivertown of St. Anne de Beaupre, which has been receiving pilgrims honoring the grandmother of Jesus since 1658. Mid-afternoon arrival at the Comfort Inn for check-in (2 nights). Evening visit to the Shrine for a Rosary & Candlelight Procession.

Day 6 – Excursion to the charming 400-year-old Canadian capital of Quebec City, the only walled city north of Mexico. Sprawling across cliff-tops ascending from the river bank, enjoy a funicular ride from Upper Town to Lower Town’s Place Royale, the original trading post of Samuel de Champlain, founder of the city in 1608. As the first French settlement in N. America, Old Quebec is reminiscent of 18th-century France. Walk along cobblestone streets lined with stone houses and shops. Visit the Cathedral-Basilica of Notre-Dame de Québec, the site of one of the oldest parishes in North America.

Day 7 – A morning dedicated to the Shrine of St. Anne. Visit the Basilica, which has a venerable statue of St. Anne with a miraculous history. Walk the Way of the Cross and learn of Venerable Alfred Pampalon, whose body rests here. Climb the Sancta Scala or visit a copper museum. Afternoon drive to Montreal, stopping at Montmorency Falls (higher than Niagara)—early evening arrival and overnight at Holiday Inn Montreal Dorval Airport.

Day 8 – Early morning transfer to the airport for a flight to Los Angeles. Late afternoon arrival at LAX.
